Some
researchers believe that they are little balls of energy that spirits use to
manifest themselves. But if you stop and think about it, if that’s what
orbs are and they are so readily available why are they always popping up in
the pictures and the ghosts aren’t? Well another theory is that when a spirit manifests itself, it doesn’t mean
that it has to be visible, maybe it’s just using enough energy to project a
voice, a voice that is so quiet that our own ears aren’t strong enough to
hear it whereas an audio recording device would be able to pick it up. Or
maybe it’s manifesting enough energy just to move something; a chair, a
table or something else. But then what about the times investigators go out
and they have pictures of orbs, but they have no evidence other than orbs.
Studies show that there is very little to no evidence linking orbs with
spirit activity. One can go almost anywhere take pictures and find orbs in
any given photograph.
So what’s all the hype? Honestly I don’t know. I do know however that orbs
have become a normal acceptance in the paranormal investigating world since
the Sci-Fi hit series Ghost Hunters and other TV shows. Before then, few
people outside of the realm of ghost hunters really knew what those odd
little things were in their pictures, but now that it’s been brought out
into the open more, the word ORB has become more readily accepted.
Sometimes people will ask us: “Are they spirits?”. Well, I cannot say yes
or no to this question. In my opinion I would have to say no, they are not
spirits. I personally cannot accept the idea that an orb is a spirit. In
fact, I have a rather hard time accepting them as little balls of energy.
From what I can tell 99% of orbs in pictures and on video are nothing more
than dust particles or moisture in the air. I once had a discussion with a
man in West Virginia who had some rather interesting photos of an orb. He
had taken a photo and enlarged it several times, and by looking at the blown
up pictures you could make out a face inside the orb, this refers to
Matrixing. I tried to point out to him that the other orbs had no faces.
This man was quite determined to prove me wrong and refused to accept any
insight I had to offer. So I decided to not try to reason with him and just
let him talk. He went on to tell me that these photos were taken in an
abandoned old bunker. Let’s stop there. He said ABANDONED OLD BUNKER not a
well kept house. Folks when you go into abandoned old places there is going
to be plenty of dust, and when you go walking through this dust you are
bound to stir some up into the air. To tell you the truth I would have been
more impressed if he would have shown me pictures without orbs.
When taking pictures, try to keep in mind the conditions under which you are
taking these pictures. Is it dusty? Is it an old place? Is it raining
outside? Is your camera lens clean? Any of these things can cause orbs to
show up in your pictures. Simply put orbs are typically light from the
camera flash reflecting off of a dust particle, an insect, or a raindrop.
In 2006 our group was conducting a training investigation in an old cemetery
in Ohio. I witnessed an orb with the naked eye. It was not light
reflecting off of anything because at that very moment, no one was taking
pictures. It was about 30 feet in front of me in a wooded area and was very
bright and small. It wasn‘t one of those little lightning bugs either, it
was December and way to cold for them. It moved from right to left very
quickly and then vanished. This is the first and only time I witnessed and
orb with the naked eye and without light from a camera flash or other
source. It was also the time that I began to accept the fact that maybe
orbs are indeed little balls of energy. Did we see a ghost? No we didn’t,
but before I seen the anomaly one member said she felt something hit her in
the back of the leg, also 3 of the members all had a very uneasy feeling
about being there. Keep in mind these 3 particular members rarely have
weird feelings about any place we go to, and one of them has never had that
sort of feeling at all!
Also in 2006 our group investigated a former members home. We were taking a
break in the kitchen where the video monitor and camera were both set up.
The camera was pointed towards the laundry room where it was reported that
you could witness things moving around. While taking our break I just
happened to glance at the monitor and seen an orb, but it wasn’t a typical
orb, this one was pulsating then dissipated into thin air. This camera is a
simple basic security camera with night vision and audio. The audio is
directional and very good. If you are standing behind the camera it doesn’t
pick up noise that well, but if you are in front of it, then it picks up
very well. We rewound the tape and watched this pulsating orb multiple
times when someone said “What is that noise?”. I rewound again and turned
the volume up and as soon as the orb dissipates one can hear a loud and
harsh sounding sigh. The lady that lives there told us before the
investigation that the only thing ever caught on a voice recorder was a
loud sigh, and this has happened on 2 other occasions. Could this have been
a “spirit orb”? Or was it a little ball of energy and a spirit used that
energy to manifest itself as a sigh?
So I ask you, is there something to this? Could orbs be nothing more than
dust or moisture or maybe an insect? Could they be spirits? Could they be
little balls of energy? I cannot answer that. I have my opinions and that
is all I can offer. I challenge you to go out, research and investigate and
compare and share your ideas with others. Don’t be closed minded. If you
are like me and don’t really think that orbs are anything more than dust, be
open to the idea that it could be more. If you think that orbs are spirits
or balls of energy, then don’t be closed minded to the idea that they are
not. There are no certainties with paranormal research yet. So feel free
to share your findings with us! Good luck, and happy haunted hunting!
